7 Rhoose members attended the I.R.B. training weekend
As you may or may not be aware Rhoose lifeguards were very fortunate this summer to receive a Safety grant from the V.C.V.S. for £5000.00 to purchase an Inshore Rescue Boat (I.R.B.)
With the above in mind 7 Rhoose members attended a very successful training weekend at St David’s last weekend organised by the Rescue Boat (Wales) Commission. (http://www.rescueboatwales.org/) Friday was a good social gathering for IRB crews in Wales. Saturday was started with technical demonstrations and tips, boats then hit the water for what was a very testing day with the strong onshore winds and big messy waves, Sunday was a bright and sunny day which kicked off with a team photo followed by exams and more training in the water.
Special guests this year were Peter Hallet from Australia and Warren Mitchell the father of the IRB
The Rhoose members tagged along with Peter and gained valuable knowledge and experience of the different I.R.B. boats, Engines, Maintenance, and fault finding that will help with the selection and running of the new Rhoose I.R.B.
Every member also went on the water and had a go of the boats with a couple of us having one – one tuition with Peter.
The club would like to thank its members who gave up their weekend to gain knowledge and experience of the Craft, also thanks to Chris Parry and his team for organising a very successful weekend, and a personal thanks to Peter Hallet for giving his time to educate the Rhoose members who attended.
The club looks forward to dealing with Peter (http://www.midcoastmarine.com.au/) further, to assist with securing the correct equipment and knowledge to ensure Rhoose Lifeguards continues to offer its members one of the safest environments for training and development today and in the near future.
