Annual General meeting of the Rhoose Lifeguards took place on November 25,

The meeting was chaired by Coun   Jeff James, vice-president, who thanked the club for its contributions to the community of Rhoose and surrounding areas, in particular the patrolling of the lifeguard huts at Fontygary Bay beach and Barry Island and its involvement in the Remembrance Parade. Following officer’s reports and the election of officers and the committee, members of the club received a number of awards, including:

Best first year junior –Kathryn Gardner;

Most improved paddler –Chris Boyle;

Best junior– Hannah James;

Toudie Cup – (joint first) - Kathryn Gardner and Chad Bremner;

Kevin Rowlands trophy – Lana Evans;

Most improved Nipper female – Tayla Edgerton;

                                                   Most improved Nipper male –James Wadey;

Jake Bremner award – Maisie James.

Certificates were handed to those Nippers who had attended Nipper Camp earlier in the year. A number of members received their Ski and Surf competence awards. Newly qualified members received National Rescue Standard (NaRS) Awards. The club has had a fantastic year in competition. Not only did it retain the Wilkinson Sword Trophy but it was also presented with the first ever Welsh Superclub Trophy .

A tremendous amount of hard work has been put into training by both coaches and members. The club has gained several new members over the last 12 months and thanks to the dedication of the coaches, allow Rhoose Lifeguards to maintain its high standard of training and safety.

Rhoose Lifeguards are extremely grateful to the people of the Vale of Glamorgan who have supported fundraising events and for the sponsorship of various organisations. All have helped in the purchase of safety and training equipment to enable the members to be trained to help keep our beaches safe.

Rhoose Lifeguards would like to wish everyone a happy new year and look forward to another successful season in 2010.
