Rhoose Ski Race 2011

Race Report & Results

63 paddlers competed in the first race in the GB Ski Series at Fontygary Bay, Rhoose hosted by Rhoose Lifeguards on Sunday May 15th 2011.

A strong westerly wind, steady at 20mph and gusting to 33 mph gave some very testing conditions. The conditions meant a shorter course than previous years, with distances between 8 km and 12 km. A strong headwind on the outward leg was followed by a very fast return section with some great runs to be had.

Many thanks to all those that took part, to those that helped to organise the event and provided the BBQ, drinks and cakes. Special thanks to the IRB crews and support from the SLSA Wales Powercraft section without whom the race would not have gone ahead.

Welsh Nipper Stillwater - 13th March
Wednesday, 26 January 2011 23:52

Nipper Information - 28th January 2011

Welsh Nipper Stillwater

This week we received the entry information for the Welsh Nipper Stillwater (pool based competition), which will be held at Wales National Pool, Swansea on 13th March.  Exact times are to be confirmed, but work on the basis of being at the pool from 8am until 6pm.  If your child would like to take part in the competition, we need to know as soon as possible, ideally this Friday 28/01 or Sunday 30/01, but certainly no later than Friday 11th February.  No entries will be accepted after Friday 11th February.  If your child wishes to compete, please complete the 'Nipper Entry Information' below.

All entrants need to be able to complete the individual race competently.  The club will have points deducted if a competitor fails to finish.  That said, we would very much like to take a big team.  If in any doubt as to whether your child should take part / take part in a given event, then please speak with Liz Wong, Andy Wall or myself.

The cost for individual events (Obstacle, Flipper, Board) is £3 per event and the cost of a pair event is £4 (£2 each).  Team events will be paid for by the club, with teams picked on the day.

Competitors must have been born between 01/01/1998 and 31/12/2003.

Individual Events
- 50m Obstacle (born 00,01,02,03) or 100m Obstacle (born 98,99) Obstacle Swim (front crawl, swimming under the gates)

- 50m Manikin Carry (all ages) (25m swim, followed by 25m tow)

- 50m Flipper Race (all ages)

- 50m Board Race (all ages)

Pair Events

- 50m Board Rescue (paddle 25m, pick up patient, paddle 25m together)

- 100m Rescue Tube Race (50m swim by rescuer, who has flippers, collect patient, then tow patient 50m to finish)

Entry to the obstacle race is limited to 4 boys and 4 girls per age group (year).  Likewise, pairs in the Rescue Tube need to be from the same age group (year) and are restricted to 3 pairs (covering boys and girls).  If we get more Nippers than places available, the coaches will have final call on who is to compete.

Once we have worked out the pair events, we can work out who needs to pay what.

Cancelled - Nipper Training - Sunday 19th December
Saturday, 18 December 2010 13:43

Dear All,

With road conditions still treacherous and no signs of a significant improvement before tomorrow, we have decided to cancel both pool training and Nipper Nosh afterwards.

We feel that although some people may have been able to get to Fonty, for others it would be a struggle, and certainly not worth risking an accident.

Our current plan is to have Nipper Nosh on the first Sunday we are back in the New Year, being 9th January.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year from Rhoose Lifeguards.

Kind regards,

Alan and Liz
